WG RTD I called Millard Ward, one of the crew members, he told me that they flew for quite a while after being hit by the German Jet fighters, He was the First to notice flames coming from the right wing. They found the emergency field at Y-44 near Beek, The Netherlands that was being constructed using steel landing matts. He said the pilot sat the plane down without any trouble but it soon started to blaze. He felt if fire fighting equipment would have been handy they could have saved the plane. He said they visited Brussels that night. Crash somewhere between February and March 1945 Jim moved to Y-44 from A-71 May 1, 1945. He flew from there 7 times mostly doing instrument training and some formation work. flew from there to B-87 moving tents etc on May 28, 1945. http://books.google.com/books?id=eu_YTJFZB6QC&pg=PA180&lpg=PA180&dq=b-17+43-38205&source=web&ots=skDUNfi4Op&sig=dmTDoYNSjtldfOQlay_rzcUPjaw&hl=en
